Frontal is a regular programme on ZDF that reports on political, business, and societal developments – including significant matters concerning the war in Ukraine. On 18 July 2023, Frontal aired a segment titled ‘Machtkampf um Wagner-Gruppe: Die Söldnergruppe nach dem Aufstand’ [Power struggle over the Wagner Group: The mercenary group after the uprising].

During the segment, I spoke at length about recent strategic developments concerning the Wagner Group, specifically reports concerning the organisation’s relocation to Belarus. The primary focus of the show discussed security threats relating to the influx of foreign fighters travelling to Russian and occupied eastern Ukraine to fight for known Wagner Group proxies.

Given the increase in speculation regarding the overall state of the Wagner Group and the whereabouts of Evgeny Prigozhin, I provided insight concerning the overall structure of the Wagner Group and what recent developments could mean to the organisation’s leadership. The investigative segment further showed the work undertaken by me concerning the analysis of social connections between Wagner Group fighters and foreign fighters.
